Promoting British Values

From November 2014, schools are required to promote British Values.  We use the character Paddington Bear to help children learn more about the above values.

What are the 4 main British Values?

Democracy

Pupils, parents and staff have the right to have their voices heard.

The Rule of Law

The importance of law and rules should be referred to and reinforced to teach children to distinguish right from wrong.  This will help to teach children to take responsibility for their own actions.

Individual Liberty

Promote the freedom of choice and the right to respectfully express views and beliefs in a safe environment.  This will teach children to take responsibility for their behaviour.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those with different faiths or beliefs

Children are taught to show empathy and understanding of people from different backgrounds.  This will give children the opportunity to learn about different cultures and beliefs.
