Dear Parents and Carers,

We are writing to update you about a situation involving a fire at a nearby residential property within the last hour. Please be assured that all children are safe and well.

The school day is continuing as normal with some small adjustments.

Collection Options

If you would like to collect your child early, you are welcome to do so.

Please note that Wymering Road is currently closed, so vehicle access is limited. We ask that you do not drive up to the school – please walk. Porchester Road is open for access if driving is essential.

If possible, park safely nearby and walk to the gates next to the school entrance. Staff will be available to assist with collection. Please be mindful, your child may have not collected all their belongings.

For Children Staying in School

For those remaining at school, we have planned a range of supervised activities to keep children engaged and comfortable for the rest of the day.

Normal dismissal will take place at the usual time, unless we advise otherwise. Please be mindful of the above road closure.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Kind regards,
Jack Jones
Headteacher

Pupil Parliament sample new food for future New Horizons menu

May 14, 2024 11:01am

New Horizons Primary School's menu will soon welcome new items to the menu, all thanks to the collaboration between the Pupil Parliament and Chartwells, the school's food provider.

Representing students from each year group, the Pupil Parliament recently sampled some potential food options to appear on the menu next term. These included vegetarian meatball pizza, chicken and veggie pie, creamy potatoes, and a sticky pudding cake with a twist – it's has beetroot and other healthy foods baked into it.

The Pupil Parliament gave their honest opinions about what they liked, what they didn't, and what they'd rather not see on their lunch trays. They also provided some other suggestions about meals which may appear on the menu.

Now, Chartwells will take those opinions to support their decision as they tweak the menu for next term.

Mrs. Powell, who leads on Pupil Parliament at the school, says this activity is all about giving young people a voice to influence what other children can enjoy at lunchtime.

She said: "This collaboration between Chartwells and our Pupil Parliament is absolutely fantastic. We formed our Pupil Parliament to be a voice for others within their class, to share opinions and encourage positive change, and that's exactly what we are seeing in action.

"I'm pleased to hear that the children were very opinionated about what they really enjoyed, but also gave feedback about what they feel won't be as popular, which is really important. It's activities like this that encourage them to speak freely and respectfully, and I'm proud of them for doing that."

Any changes to the school menu will be communicated to parents with notice.
